If you would like to upload photos to Instagram from a desktop/laptop computer, here’s a neat trick.

First, you will have to turn on Develop Mode in your web browser. Each web browser has this in a different location. In the video I use Safari but this should work in your browser as well.

For Safari: Go to Safari > Preferences > Advanced. Check the box at the very bottom that says, “Show Develop menu in menu bar.”

Now open a private browsing window. Head to Develop > User Agent > Safari — iOS 10 — iPhone. Go to Instagram.com, sign in and click the camera button at the bottom of the screen to upload a photo from your desktop.

In Chrome, go to Instagram.com and sign in. Now right-click the page > Inspect > click the Tablet icon (top-left). The page should switch to mobile view, where you’ll find a camera button at the bottom of the screen, which lets you upload a photo from your desktop.

Hi there
Well done and thanks for sharing this important information.
I have recently opened an Instagram account and was wondering how to do this task.
After reading your review, I can see that it is really simple and uncomplicated, As most of my images and photos are on my laptop files, it makes more sense for me to be able to creat Instagram posts from my laptop.
Thanks for this important post, I have saved this article for future reference.
Continued success
Cheers Phil Browne

Thanks for the tutorial. This is good news for us, who use personal computers more often than mobile devices. I remember, I signed up for an account with Instagram, but seldom use it because I am more hooked with my PC.

I have a question: Can someone open an account with Instagram using a personal computer and not through a mobile device?

Hi and thanks for the comment and question. Instagram is owned by Facebook, so YES you can signup for an account on your computer with your email or Facebook account.

Hope that helps. If you have any other questions let me know.

This is a handy little post, thanks very much! I often do some of my photo editing on my laptop, rather than my phone. So it’s a bit of a pain always having to then transfer it over to my phone again to upload it. I’ll be sure to do this in the future.

By the way, do you have any recommendations for photo editing apps for Instagram?

    Hi Joshua,

Thanks for the comment. Glad you found it helpful.

I use Canva for a lot of image editing on my computer. You can see it action on the How To Create Pinterest Images Quick & Easy post. – it’s another cool free resource. Hope that helps.

Hi Greg, thanks so much for the info. I have been thinking of taking advantage of Instagram, but have negated it due to how long it would take for me to have to upload from my phone while I try to use my laptop to make the blog post. Knowing how to upload from my computer, however, changes my perception of it, thank you so much for the lesson.
